Did any schools use the cricket bat for corporal punishment?

I was whacked at school with a miniature cricket bat which served as an ideal spanking implement and was much like the wooden paddle used in some American schools. It stung like hell especially as I was punished twice in one (P.E) lesson and my backside was still sore from the first spanking when I got the second one!

I meant to ask if any other school used the bat as the school I went to used it up until 1994. Only the headmaster could give it and it was always done in private in his office. I got it twice in my last year of primary school.

The cricket bat was used by the headmaster of the secondary modern school behind our
house. A friend of my mother use to visit us, probably weekly (as was routine in the 50s/
60s before most women went out to work) and I remember being fascinated on one
occasion overhearing her description of how her son had “had the bat”. I wish I could
remember the offence and details of the procedure. This was in my primary school days
and I had never seen a cane but was vaguely aware that a cane was flexible whereas a
cricket bat was a large lump of wood and seemed to me most unsuitable for the purpose.

The P.E master at my school had a small version of a full size cricket bat that he used to whack our bottoms if we misbehaved in his class ,he also had a old plimsoll that he also used on the seat of our shorts, both hurt but the bat was definitely the most painful. For the plimsoll it was bending over touching toes, for the bat it was over the vaulting horse, this was administered with the boy wearing only shorts for protection and it stung like mad,i received it on about 3 or 4 occasions and it brought tears to my eyes

sc545474 yes I imagine so gym shorts where made of thin material and no underwear it would of made its mark quickly plus its width would cover more area of the bottom compared to say hand plimsoll

2015holyfamilypenguin coming from the other side of the big pond we play cricket it is a sport I enjoy watching and have played ???? i suppose the shortened version of a cricket bat for punishment would probably have the effect on the bottom as the American using a paddle

UK schools tended to use slippers or canes, in Scotland and a few parts of the UK teachers used straps but they were usually given across hands.
At home various things were used to give spankings.

There was a private boys school in London that used the cricket bat up until 1994. Girls attended private lessons there from the sister school and were subjected to corporal punishment as well although not as often as the boys. I got the bat from the headmaster aged 16. I would be happy to disclose information about the school via email. dehurst90@gmail.com
