The first time I witnessed SCP was not to dissimilar to your own experience.
I was in the infants and I believe I had not long started attending school.
We were sat on the floor gathered around our teacher, probably just about to be read a story, a girl entered the classroom and told the teacher a boy had done a wee on the toilet floor again. The boy in question was dragged out to the front and smacked.
I presume the boy must have been somewhat a serial offender in missing his target, how the girl could have known about the boy`s toilet habits I have no idea and I feel certain she was not from our class, but anyway the teacher obviously felt she was reliable enough and the boy guilty enough to deliver a good hiding.
The reason I believe this was my first experience of witnessing cp is because I can clearly remember my friend asking me why I was crying. I don`t actually remember crying but I do remember her turning to me in surprise and asking why I was crying so I must have been.
My primary school was relatively keen on CP, especially so in the infant classes, I certainly witnessed more CP in that class but I don`t remember either crying or been asked why I was crying again. It could be of course that something about that particular incident upset me more than others I may have seen, but most likely it was the first time I had witnessed CP and it distressed me enough to bring on tears.

She put his over her knee, that was the usual way the infant teachers administered CP. Clothes were sometimes adjusted so it is possible she pulled his trousers down, I think she probably did on this occasion but can`t remember well enough to be sure.

I am from the UK, have always lived here. I started my school career in 1970 therefore I have passed my half century. Erm …. I think I may spell witch slightly different to you but yes I can`t say I have a whole lot of love for some of my old primary school teachers!
I went to a church aided school, very religious in its teaching. They did an excellent job, I am now a practising atheist, I`m sure my old headmaster would be delighted how committed I am! In comparison to other primary schools in the area mine seems to have used CP with a certain regularity, this has lead some of the ex-pupils (myself included) to consider some teachers less than favourably.
Is that fair? I don`t know. I think some teachers (most actually) believed they were doing the best for the pupils in their care, but there were others that used CP because that is what was expected of them.
The school generation before mine did not have much if any formal classroom CP. A new headmaster stared at around the same time as myself, it is my belief he introduced the idea of formal classroom CP.
This of course is a kindness, far better to get a smack in class and leave the cane for only the most serious misbehaviour, however I think he possibly encouraged the teachers to run a tight ship and crack down quickly on any perceived bad behaviour, leading in some cases to CP being used as a first resort. I also believe he encouraged the use of CP for academic failure, a ruler across the hand was supposed to aid greater learning, sure it did in some cases but not all and certainly not mine.
I will never understand how a teacher can write a report on a child, who in their own words is trying their very best, always gives every effort, but would benefit from being less nervous of approaching the teacher and asking for help, can be prepared to whip out ruler or slipper and use it on said child for not doing so well in a test or making a hole in paper because they have attempted to rub out a mistake as they were terrified the teacher would be cross.
I met an ex teacher a couple of years ago, I can barely remember her she left the year after I started and taught a slightly older class, I think she thought I was my sister, anyway she mentioned she had left to go to another school and was glad to have got out as she did not like the way she was expected to run a classroom. While hardly evidence that a new regime had been implemented it does seems somewhat that may have been the case.
So yes I`m afraid we had a fair share of `witches` they may have been given a mandate but they didn`t always need to follow it through
Not all bad of course I have many happy memories and this is where I made lifelong friendships, some teachers although strict were also kind and even if I fell foul of them I have fond memories.
I do not recall any backsides being barred for punishment, there was rumours, one teacher punished outside of class, it was said she took you to the toilets to take underwear down before applying the slipper. Despite a number of pupils knowing exactly what happened out in the cloakroom the whispers still persisted!

Boys attended woodwork class once a week in standards 5 and 6 (ages 11 and 12) at my primary school. The girls attended domestic science and learned to sew on buttons, darn socks, cook eggs, make scones, wash clothes and do other wifely duties. In school proper, hands were strapped if you misbehaved – no fun if you were on the receiving end.
The woodwork teacher was a carpenter rather than a teacher proper. Normally, he had no trouble keeping order but one day he took offence at some grave crime, I am not sure what, and ordered us to form a circle to witness punishment. He gave a boy four whacks on the seat of his short pants using a 3 foot length of 3/8 inch dowel. Each time the dowel broke and had to be replaced.
What was notable was that the caned boy seemed to know what was required of him. He adopted “the position” without needing to be instructed as to what it was, took the strokes stoically and stayed down until invited to stand. I do not think the punishment was especially painful and was likely mild compared to the strap.
The demo doubtless served as all well when it came to secondary school where we were to find a proper rattan cane very effective. But when, where and how did the boy learn how to be caned?

shorts down was quite common from my experience in the 70s
underpants came down a few times but in private
though I do recall one boy whos shorts were yanked down and his pants went half way down with them–so id say have the spanks were on his pants half were bare bottom
never saw a full on bare bottom spanking in class but saw lots on pants—boys and girls

hi john yes this was very common when I was at infant school mainly where short trousers would be taken down to smack the culprit of bad behaviour by a teacher [sometimes underpants too for a classroom spanking in front of everyone at which level of school did you see this method used and where they over the knee

I don’t recall bare bottom spankings in class—apart from the one I mentioned which was not fully bare

When I was a junior in college I heard a second hand account from a sophomore at a mixer. Neither of us went to coed schools so once a month we visited each other’s school. Two dances a month. The school administrators wanted us to marry Catholic.

being alumni of public school system in 1970’s Texas, paddling was widespread and fully supported by school board, teachers, staff, parents and even students themselves. It was daily occurance such that the office staff were immune to the routine sound of loud smacks emanating from behind the closed and sometimes not closed doors of the vice-principals.
occasionally i’d go to the office to turn in absentee note or such and frequently see students sitting in waiting area outside the VP’s office for their turn as the thunderous sounds emanated from behind the door. However my interest perked when I saw who emerged from behind that door after a minute or two after hearing those loud swats. It was one of the cutest girls in the sophmore class, who emerged not overly distressed really. she calmly came up the same counter as I was leaning against and looking straight ahead and ignoring my presence waited for her return slip to class, turned around and went out the door.

Hi,as far i know Mrs Waring never spanked the whole class when no one owned up she had no need to as someone always informed her of the culprit

Two boys were punished in front of the school during morning assembly. They were told to change into PE attire for the caning. Each of them got 3 strokes of the cane. Subsequently, I saw many more during my time in school, including private canings and even canings during school overseas trips.

My first experience as a witness of a spanking was when a third grade when a girl was spanked over the knee. That was the only public over the knee spanking.
In fourth grade on a frequent basis given the fact there were 48 plus students with 6 by 8 desks to a room with an overflow in the back.
We had to learn the times table as well as the Ten Commandments by heart. The sister said thou shall not stretch thy neck was the eleventh commandment.
It was a venial sin because it didn’t reach the threshold of being a serious matter. Being the smartest boy in the class I suppose made me a near occasion of sin.

My first viewing of a spanking was aged 7 at my boys school in Surrey. In class a boy was being rather silly. He was called out and then was sent to fetch his black plimsoll from his Pe bag, which were kept on hooks outside the classroom.

My first ever spanking at school was from Mrs S, infact it was the first spanking I had received from anyone but my parents.

For me there was and is a big difference between informal, generally mild and unauthorised “spanking” and formal SCP using regulation purpose-made implements. In the 1950’s and 60’s in New Zealand government primary schools only hand strapping was allowed. I do not recall the first strapping I witnessed but do recall being threatened by a witch when I was about 6 years old for failing to understand when she instructed me to “sound” an unfamiliar word. For some reason, having the strap shaken at me did not help. I was not alone in my ignorance.

I do not recall any formal spanking in younger grades….just warning swats,,,i heard a couple times when my friend went in 1st , you could hear the swats…but this thread got me to remember when i was 12 in gym class there was this boy always in trouble and this one time i got mixed up in his madness to say…the gym teacher pulled us into the change room, more mad at the other boy then me, after a lecture to us he grabbed the other boy (can not think of his name!) by his arm and dragged him into the shower area and told him too pull down his shorts and underwear, that got my attention and i got a quick peak of him baring himself before he started to spank. But i dodged out as i thought id get caught looking. I didnt see the actual spanking just heard it and when he brought me in i only got a couple swats over my underwear with the warning that it would go to the principal next time and id get more severe next time.Looking back he told us both to keep quiet about it or the office would know. Looking back i know why because he did not have permission to spank or pull down shorts/underwear. At the time i just thought it was so we did not get in bigger trouble.

kevimont so you got away a bit lighter than the other boy by the sounds of it although not that I am saying for one moment it was not embarrassing being spanked on your underwear by the teacher like a naughty small child and it did not hurt did the games teacher spank boys like this regular if you incurred his wrath

hi… i recall the teacher being more of a yell type of teacher to be honest, actually he was kinda cool from what i can remember. So yes i got it way easier, i even got less swats. He did threaten a couple times to various boys, that was the only time he spanked me,. The other boy was taken in there a couple more times that i recall, not sure if he was spanked because he never let on.Back then boys were usually in half of the gym the girls on the other side with their own gym teacher.
