Well, now, here’s one for you all to enjoy.

Firstly, I do apologise for the poor quality of the text. The original photocopy sent to me years ago, is not good.

The copies relate to café owner, Christopher Deaman from Newark, who caned his thee sixteen year old waitresses for transgressions such as till shortages which he felt were down to pilfering. (Mmm , hang on; what about over-ringing the till? I had a Saturday job in a convenience store as a 16 year old schoolboy and it happened a lot!!).

I believe this happened circa 1973. The two copies I have submitted are the only ones I have. I googled the incident and gained access to a website that I’d not previously encountered, of which its name escapes me. But on it, I found the front page copy of a Coventry newspaper that had the incident as its headline. As I was about to enlarge it, my anti-virus kicked in. The website was dodgy and thus, thank the Lord for anti-virus!!!!

I’m sorry to keep bringing up those two ‘likely lads,’ ‘Towers & Wilson,’ but like them, this chap tried to suggest that one of the girls actually suggested she be caned. Oh, come on!
It beggars belief that these three girls of 16 would allow an employer to do this. But, somehow, they did. If it was a top, well paid job, some girls might agree. A legal secretary on a top salary might, for example, depending on the circumstances.  But a cafe waitress? I really don’t understand why they didn’t say no, and leave the job to get another. I wonder, too, if these three girls were still at school.

I guess we have to admire the café owner for being so bold and getting the girls to agree to a whacking.

But anyway, I ramble: I’d love your thoughts. And of course, if anybody has got other cuttings on this, then, please, please do post!!  Thank you. I did try Corpun, but I couldn’t locate anything.

During the 60s and 70s office spankings of young girls, at least in London,  were quite common.These varied from a few playfull slaps whilst the girl was standing  to an OTK often with skirt raised (even if slaps were playfull)  and sometimes (in private)  even bare bottomed. Most were not officially  complained of  as the consequences back then  were often not benefical to the young lady concerned. The  senior male usually kept his job and she, being a junior,  was transferred ,often to an undesirable position sometimes in another office . not conveniently situated to where she lived. Unfair but that was the way it was back then.

My first experience of “office spanking” was quite dramatic. This was in 1963 whilst working as a summer  temporary (I was at uni at the time)  for beer brewers  Truman Handbury and Buxton in Brick Lane, London. Although only a temp employed in the cooperage as a labourer I was designated a clever clogs and given the job of filling in the return  forms. We washed (using steam machines) empty barrels, Hogsheads, keels, kilikins and pins(I still remember the names)  and passed them via a conveyor belt to the filling Dept as requested . The numbers sent were chalked on a blackboard and at the end of the day entered on the forms and these were taken to the office at 3pm the next day; the walk was about 3 minutes each way and as it was during the official 15 minute tea break, I definitely lost out. I gave the forms to a nice young blond lady named Sylvia who was assistant /secretary to the manager . She was about 20 (a year older than me at the time) and considered by”the factory floor” to be a looker although it was understood she was engaged to be married.

On the  Friday afternoon in question,  there was party in the office due to a retirement and I received instructions not to bother going across but being me, I popped over  anyway . There was some noisy going ons downstairs with laughter but no sign of Sylvie so I went up to her desk on the first floor which was outside the manager’s office . Her desk was empty but some interesting sounds were coming from the manager’s office. Being somewhat forward and foolhardy and  intrigued by what I might see, I knocked and opened the door. Chaos and much scrammbling . Mr Buxton, the manager was sitting in a chair with his suit jacket over the back. He was very red faced and had  had Sylvie bent right over  knees with her dress and petticoat hiked up and her blue panties partly pulled down Her stocking tops were well on display as was most of her pinkened bottie.

Unfortunately I was dismissed on the spot  and told to wait downstairs while my weeks wages was prepared . I was also told that if I mentioned the incident it would be wholly denied and I would be given such a black mark as to be unemployable in the future. The wages had been excellent £14. 2s 10d a week (fantastic for that time) and as well as missing out on a few weeks wages  I had been hoping to come back the following summer as I really liked working there. Big mistake on my part.but a memorable experience.

Oh, noooo!!! Flaming Nora! I’ve just found another newspaper cutting relating to the caning cafe owner. It was a Nottingham cutting and just as I was about to click on it, my antivirus kicked in……thankfully!   It was another dodgy site. i’m stunned. Two!!!

I’m hoping that the experts we are lucky enough to have as members, might, just might, be able to dig something out on this one. I’d love to find out more about the incident. To think the cuttings had set in my file headed, ‘Secretarial and Workplace Incidents,’ for about 15 years, simply forgotten about.

Sir John, hello. Happy Easter! What a great piece of nostalgia you told. I enjoyed that! The wages were terrific for 1963, by the way! Yes, a loss of a good job, but WOW! Look what you saw. I wonder If Mr. Buxton had spanked young Sylvia before??? . Mmmm, mind you, it was amidst the atmosphere of a retirement party, so maybe tongues relaxed, laughter abounded and a few drinks made one or two a tad more adventurous. Who knows?.  But a great piece.

All I can offer in return relates to when I was seventeen in 1973, and was working for a large consumer electrics and lighting company (I recall the day I was interviewed; turning up there in my two-tone suit and my Rod Stewart haircut. Girls of my age were eyeing up the skinny, shy Paul in his flash suit…..not that it took me anywhere)

One of those who eyed me up was a 17 year old called Karen. Although she and I were chatty, she quickly realised that I was nothing short of a whipersnapper. She was a loud one, abrasive and effervescent, and always in the mix. But then, one day to my astonishment, I walked into the test room where they aged lamps and what did I see?! I saw Karen over the knee of a chap called Bob, aged approx, 23, who was soundly smacking her jean-clad bum. It looked quite hard and Karen, probably milking the moment, thrashed about over his knee, quite red faced. When he let he go she was laughing her head off. She used to tease Bob and I guess that’s why she found herself over his knee. I would have liked to have seen the moment he pulled her over..

What a moment for the young Paul. But not half as good as yours, Sir John Thank you for sharing it with us.

Paul…. Thanks for passing on your memory. The work at Truman’s was quite hard and tiring  . Fortunately, due to some union rule, the wages for casuals during high summer was basicly the same as guys who had been working there for years.

I recollect another “major news item” spanking involving a 17 year old waitress in a cafe which occured several years ago. Apparently she gave the  cafe owner reason to take  her to the store room out back  where he put her across his  knee, lifted her skirt, pulled up the legs of her knickers  and spanked her quite hard. What was particularly interesting (I thought) was that the girl was a policeman’s daughter. The cafe owner must have known this. Anyway I recollect there were differences in his and her versions I recollec him claiming that the chastisement was intended to “shake her up” and was  very mild . He also claimed that her skirt “rode up” and denied “adjusting” her underwear.  The court found her version unproven and he walked.

Sorry for not being able to provide chapter and verse. I suspect others may remember the case and be able to add something.

Sentenced, then, to eight years and he died in prison.
This guy has turned the lives of females into otter turmoil. Nothing short of a trail of destruction.

In my opening post on this thread, I questioned how the three 16 year old waitresses agreed to being caned at his cafe. On reading about him, I can clearly see how overpowering and manipulative he was. It’s clear how they would have agreed

Really liked the volunteer post. I was glad the guy got away with it. Such ingenuity deservrves rewards. It’s amazing what you can buy for $15.

Interestingly Northwestern was my wife’s Alma Mater . She really liked it there. The sororites were apparently a bit exclusive but she became a “little sister” to one of the fraternities and duly received a very mild paddling.on initiation.

Can we include outdoor spankings in this thread? I remember around the same era as the waitress spankings the case of the driving instructor, I think his name was Derek Thompson from memory, who spanked his 17 year old (aren’t they always 17?!) pupil for “bad driving”. The thing about it was that it occurred on about 10 different occasions before she complained, and then it was only because he threatened to take her trousers down. Does this mean that she totally accepted the first 9 spankings, or believed he had the right to chastise her as an authority figure? Sometimes these girls are their own worst enemy!  I have no doubt someone will come across the cutting, or maybe a prior posting.

For myself, Paul, I can only relate one missed opportunity. I was working in an office, probably about 1970, and there was a girl there I quite fancied, a lovely Northern lass. One morning I was standing at the coffee machine with a plastic tray, waiting for it to dispel its delicious liquid. Suddenly I felt a sharp slap on the bum, and this lady was standing behind me with a big smile on her face. I must have looked slightly indignant because she pointed to the tray, turned round and bent over, saying something like “it’s only fair”. Like the naïve lad I was then, I actually declined. Had I accepted her offer, who knows where it would have led?

I don’t know if this chap’s  name was Derek Thompson and he seems to have been based in France.  He didn’t spank either, but hey, we don’t often encounter martinets here!

The Newark Café Incident was discussed on the foro in August 2003 under the blackmail thread.
Apparently one of the waitresses suggested the cane as an alternative to getting the sack. The only reason one girl complained was that he once caned her twice on the same day and her bottom got
too sore and bruised.

Hello, Stujos. Thank you for your contribution. A wonderful story of your time in a 1970 office that made me chuckle. Things were different then, so I think I’d have returned the smack! Well, she offered! How could a man resist…….although in 1970 I was a just fifteen!!!

Regarding diving instructor, Derek Thompson, I do have a cutting or two on him and will submit it when i have a moment. I have other cuttings I want to add first!!

Yes, apparently that appears to be the case. It amazes me that three girls of 16 wold agree to this. 1973!!!  My word, part time jobs of that ilk for 16 year olds were two a penny back then., certainly where I lived
But having said that,I bet there have been other similar incidents in the workplace down the years where the the spanker got away with it,…..flaming jealous now…. off for a sulk! LOL!

Yes, the office encounter was a missed opportunity, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’d loved to have had sight of her “hind” though!

There was an amusing postscript to this story At that time I was going out with my now wife, who was studying at teacher training college in Bradford. I was going to visit her one weekend and mentioned it to the Yorkshire lass. She said that she was going up to visit her folks in Leeds, so why not travel up by train together on Friday evening. This we did, and arranged to meet again at keeds
