Joy divorced her husband long ago due to not being in love anymore. Joe had simply lost interest in staying with his wife. This led to Joy getting custody of the kids and ownership of the family home. She still gets support for Tim until he turns 21.
Three adults live in the home but no one has a full time job. Joy sells Avon part time going door to door in her neighborhood. Tim mows laws in the neighborhood, many of his customers are mother’s Avon customers. Sue manages to make money in the neighborhood doing babysitting jobs for special needs kids.
Sue has no problem watching older kids with special needs, a couple of them are 18 and 20 years old. Sue noticed the special needs kids have a diaper service. She thought diaper services had been discontinued years ago. Disposable diapers are quite common these days.
The story takes place in Austin Texas in the year 2015. Today is Friday the tenth day of May. The hot weather has arrived with occasional afternoon thunder showers. The Bass home is single story with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. They live in a large subdivision outside of Austin.
Joy discovered again today that Tim wet his bed the previous night. He said nothing about this and made the bed wet. Tim figured he can wash the sheets when home alone sometime.
Being Friday the family looks forward to the weekend. Today Tim mowed 2 lawns making at total of $40 in cash. He is back home around 4 pm and takes a hot shower. His mother Joy found the wet bed for the third time this week. So far she has not confronted Tim about his bedwetting.
Tim’s mattress has a plastic cover for protection. This still leaves the sheets, blanket, and Tim’s pajama’s pee soaked when he wets the bed. Mom is tired of the extra work washing and drying pee soaked things several days a week. The family has a washer and dryer but Joy has had enough of washing pee soaked clothes, sheets, and blankets.
Sue arrived back home at 4 o’clock too with Tim in the shower. Sue was babysitting an older special needs girl named Cindy. Her parent’s use a diaper service because Cindy need diapers all of the time. Sue has become an expert at changing diapers.
Sue joins mother at the dining room table while dinner is cooking in the crock pot. Joy is making beef stew with carrots, potatoes, and sirloin of beef chunks. Mother is going to talk to Sue about her brother’s bedwetting.
“I hate to say it but Tim wet the bed again last night,” Joy told Sue, “that makes 3 times this week already.” “Even worse he just makes the bed thinking no one will notice he wet it.”
“That is pretty lame if you ask me,” Sue said understanding how mom feels, “his room is starting to smell like pee too.”
“What do you think we should do since we both end up doing his pee soaked laundry?” mom asked her daughter.
“I babysat Cindy for the last 3 days and she wears diapers as a young adult,” Sue stated, “she has major wetting problems.”
“Diapers?” “That is what I feel Tim needs,” mother spoke up.
“Cindy is 18 years old with special needs,” Sue said, “she has been wearing diapers all of her life and has a diaper service.”
“I thought a diaper service was a thing of the past,” Joy said.
“So did I mom until I started babysitting special needs kids,” Sue replied, “Cindy’s mom uses Happy Nappy for cloth diapers.”
Sue was there one day when Happy Nappy came by to drop off another bundle of diapers. A nice middle aged lady Stacy gave Sue her card with their phone number and address. Sue hands the card to mother who smiles when she sees this.
“I need to call Happy Nappy right now about Tim’s problem,” Joy decided grabbing the phone.
