Corporal punishment survey

Hi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.

Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.

School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.

If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.

Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.

The information I’d love you to provide is the following:

About You:
Gender:
Approximate age when punished:
Approximate year of punishment:
Crime committed or alleged:

About the punishment
Administered by Head, or Staff member:
Gender of staff member:
Location punished (Classroom, Office, Hallway etc):
Type of punishment (Cane,Slipper,Paddle etc):
Number of strokes:
Applied to (Hand, Bottom, Legs etc):
Position adopted (Standing, Bending over Chair, Desk etc):
State of dress (Over Trousers/Skirt, panties, bare etc):
Privacy (In private, In front of Class, With another teacher etc):

About the school
Name of School:
Town:
Country:

Effectiveness
Were you ever punished again for the same offence?:
Do you consider the punishment effective?:

Any other relevant info:

Many thanks for your participation. I will reply to this post myself with the details of the CP I received.

Note: I see no reason why schools should not be named as they were operating completely within the law.
We didn’t have the European issues that the UK had when they banned corporal punishment so it was kept around for longer. Fighting was considered to be a very serious offence which could have resulted in expulsion and the school had a very strict disciplinary regime and I think he was having a bad day.

Most readers will not be surprised to learn that david and debra are very closely related indeed.

Too bad that david “got exited by it”. He has now been exited from this Forum.

American Way, you are out of order!

You should never publish somebody else’s e-mail address on a public forum, even if you find it amusing. I’m sure you would be the first to complain if your privacy was infringed.

He has left his address there for all to see by simply placing your cursor over it.

It’s not exactly rocket science to keep it from that scrutiny if you don’t want people to know it. So, one must conclude likes the publicity.

Hi Steve

It wasn’t there in a form that a spambot could easily read though.

JENNY

Fair point.

But the fact that a computer illiterate like me can discover the address justlikethat(sorry, I’m a Tommy Cooper fan at heart!)doesn’t suggest Paul is over-bothered by spambots.

Because with THAT e-mail address, he might just be thinking, the more contacts, the better.

Especially if he’s sensible enough to spot that the luscious Lanas from Russia are fakes!

Jenny is a very busy person and possibly does not have time to go into details. I will attempt to amplify her completely correct statement above regarding spambots. My good friend Steve may recall that we had some discussion on this issue a considerable time ago. By coincidence Paul (not I think the same Paul) was also involved on that occasion.

When you fill in your email address (or fail to delete an email address which Network54 has inserted) in the posting window your name will appear in the names column underlined and in a reddish colour. Such a name is in fact a ‘mailto:’ link. As Steve correctly says anyone hovering their mouse over it will see your email address if their browser is suitably configured. Clicking on the name will open an email client message form with the email address ready completed.

But the email address that enables all this is not held in plain text. A Javascript routine is used to break it up into bits which cannot be recognised as parts of an email address by Spambots, clever bits of software which wander the web harvesting email addresses off web pages for spammers to use in their nefarious activities. That is why if you switch off Javascript in your browser you won’t see names connected to email addresses as links.

When an email address is put in plain text, as American Way has done above, Spambots can readily harvest the address, with consequent considerable nuisance to the owner of the address. For that reason I would hope that the normally very helpful Management of this estimable Forum will either delete or edit American Way’s post since the appearance of Paul’s email address there is certainly not of his choosing!

T o the management, thank youfor editting American Ways posy although his action and attitude has left a sour taste. Personally I’d like to remove mu whole post but can’t see a way of doing it.
