Were you ever punished again for the same offence?: No
Do you consider the punishment effective?: Yes
That caning sounds like the most severe of your punishments. Did you expect to get as many as six strokes for that offence, especially as it was your first caning? Were you in tears afterwards or did you manage to take it without crying?
Was it a mixed school or an all-girls school? Was it standard practice there for girls to be caned over the knickers with the skirt up?

Corporal punishment surveyHi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.
Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.
School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.
If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.
Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.
The information I’d love you to provide is the following:

Yes, it was. I don’t know – whenever a caning was mentioned it was almost always 6 strokes, sometimes 4. I don’t think that I expected to be that lucky, but I probably hoped. I don’t remember openly crying, but my eyes were definitely moist and stinging – I think I tried to not let it show how much it hurt, probably without too much success
Was it a mixed school or an all-girls school? Was it standard practice there for girls to be caned over the knickers with the skirt up?
Mixed – girls were sent to the female Deputy Head for caning. Skirt up was often done, but I’m not sure it was “standard” practice; it began to be mentioned round about the time we were 13.

I was at an all-boys school from the age of eight (and I was never caned at school anyway), but I’ve often wondered whether, in a mixed school like yours, the girls thought it was unfair that they were (or could be) caned over just their knickers whereas the boys were presumably caned over their trousers and therefore had an extra layer of clothing for protection.
Was that the general feeling among girls at your school, or was it not considered to be significant enough to worry about?

Gender: female
Approximate age when punished: 13
Approximate year of punishment: spring of 1965, probably very late April
Crime committed or alleged: I don’t remember, but probably for whispering during class
About the punishment
Administered by Head, or Staff member: our eighth grade teacher
Gender of staff member: female (nun)
Location punished (Classroom, Office, Hallway etc): cloakroom of our eight-grade classroom
Type of punishment (Cane,Slipper,Paddle etc): dustbrush
Number of strokes: I forget, probably about ten or so, but it could have been more
Applied to (Hand, Bottom, Legs etc): bottom
Position adopted (Standing, Bending over Chair, Desk etc): standing, pushed face to wall
State of dress (Over Trousers/Skirt, panties, bare etc): over skirt
Privacy (In private, In front of Class, With another teacher etc): with the other girl I got in trouble with
About the school
Name of School:
Town:
Country: northeastern U.S.
Effectiveness
Were you ever punished again for the same offence?: I can’t remember what we did wrong
Do you consider the punishment effective?: obviously very INEFFECTIVE since I don’t even remember what we did
Any other relevant info: There was a laywoman who came into our class to give us special instruction in reading. She called me and another girl, Adrienne Zampoli, up front for doing something, I don’t remember what, but it was probably for something like whispering to each other. Lay teachers weren’t allowed to hit us, so she made us both kneel on our hands in the front of the room, which hurt like heck but the class was nearly over so we were only up there like that for about five minutes or so.
When our nun got back, she sent the two of us back to the cloakroom at the back of the room. I don’t remember how long we waited, but after a little while she came back and picked up the dustbrush from the floor and grabbed me by the collar and slammed me face-front against the wall of the cloakroom. Then she whacked me on the backside with the thing until she had me in tears, and she did the same thing to Adrienne, who was nearly in tears herself even though she was one of those tough kids who didn’t cry easily. Then the nun sent us back to our seats, and that was that.
It obviously wasn’t very “effective” since I don’t even remember what we did to get punished for, but I remember it was the second-to-last time I got whacked in grade school. I remember this happened shortly before the May Procession because the nun threatened that if there was any more trouble out of us, we wouldn’t be in the Procession, which was a very big event back in the 60s for us as eighth graders. This means it must have happened toward the end of April.
I’ve changed Adrienne’s first and last names slightly for her privacy.

Were you ever punished again for the same offence?: No. I didn’t have a chance to. There was only one May Procession.
Do you consider the punishment effective?: Yes, combined with the warning that we wouldn’t be allowed in our Graduation ceremonies if we got in any more trouble.
Any other relevant info: The dusting wasn’t all that bad, compared to others I’d gotten, and nowhere near as bad as the dusting I’d gotten just a week or so earlier with Adrienne. What kept us on our toes for the next three weeks or so was the warning that we wouldn’t be allowed into our Graduation ceremonies if we got in any more trouble. The dusting got our attention, though, and reinforced the warning.

Any other relevant info: Every day we had to stand in the yard first thing at attention for 1 hr and during this time sing the National Antham. We were all sick of this and decided to protest. Some girls satdown and were told after the music had been stoped to stand up and they refused. The headmaster ordered them to stand up so the whole school sat don on the frezing concreat.
After we had refused his requests to stand up he orded all year masters/mistress and his deputy to find their canes and cane each of us 6 times on our bare bottoms.
I think I was about the 100th caned out of 750 at the school. The only ones not caned were the ones away that day.
The girls who started the protest received an extra six the following day in front of the school before being expelled.

At my school we had a garden that we were expected to work in for a lesson a week. I hated it and several times got sent in to sit and do maths instead.
Never physically punished, I probably would not have done it if that was an option but maths – yes please a much better option

Who knows whether iit is true? There are always reasons to suspect when bare bottom are concerned. Many posters choose not to specifically name schools. Have you ever fallen on ice?
What is the coldest temperature recorded in Singapore?
The lowest minimum temperature ever recorded in the month of December is 20.6 deg C ( on 2 Dec 1964), while the lowest temperature ever recorded (since record began in 1929) is 19.4 deg C (on 31 Jan 1934).
Cool weather over Singapore are caused by the following conditions :
i ) periods of cloudy to overcast weather accompanied by rain which blocks out the heat from the sun
ii ) season and prevailing wind
Usually the Northeast Monsoon months of December and January are the cooler months of the year with average highest temperature of 29..9 deg C as compared to 31.5 deg C in the months of April and May, and with average minimum temperature of 23.1 deg C in Dec and Jan as compared to 24.3 deg C in the months of April and May. The early part of the Northeast monsoon (months of December and January) is usually characterised by generally cloudy and windy conditions with rain periods lasting for 2 to 3 days at a stretch.
The cool north-east winds which blow over Singapore during this time of the year originate from the cold winter conditions of the interior of the Asian continent.
