Did anyone ever get a reply from Lucy Buckingham above? If so, what were the details.I’m loathe myself to e-mail in case she is not a poster to this board but has been “set up” by someone posting an address. It’s not unknown.

Corporal punishment surveyHi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.
Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.
School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.
If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.
Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.
The information I’d love you to provide is the following:

And the other boy pleading and begging for a second chance and the totally calm way the Principal totally ignored him and lifted his hand up as well and the cane slicing down. I can’t remember actually being hit though. I do remember trying to get rid of the sting by running cold water over my hand though.

Any other relevant info: While I remember the punishment quite vividly I barely remember the cause of it at all and most rely on what my sister could tell me about it. We were at a swimming lesson and a girl thought it would be funny to pull down my swimsuit. I did not react well to this and it turned into a fight and I severely ripped her swimsuit. At this point a teacher arrived and it was seen as me ripping off the girls swimsuit. I immediately got smacked repeatedly but I don’t remember that. When we got back to school I was immediately taken to the office and the Principal was told what I had supposedly done and she took out the cane. I got three strokes on each hand and when I twice refused to hold my hand out as ordered, she smacked me four times on the bottom and then three times on the back of my bare leg until I did as I was told. My sister told our mother what had happened when we got home and my mother went to the school to complain and the girl was given two strokes of the cane for pulling my swimsuit down in the first place but my mother was told that no matter how much I was provoked nothing excused my response. I can’t honestly say if I deserved it or not because I can’t remember exactly what happened but I hope it was undeserved because I hope I didn’t do more than just defend myself. That is what my sister said happened.

But most oddly, afterwards I would think back to this day, and become aroused enough to masterbate. Still do after all these years. That was the last of two canings.

Any other relevant info:
I was second in a line of three boys to see our Deputy Headmaster for differing offences, we had to stand facing the wall outside the office with our hands on our heads. When the first boy was being punished I could hear the feint swish sound and crack of the cane, when he had received his punishment he left the administration building. Admittedly I was nervous but I also had butterflies so I was a little excited (rather like the excitement you feel when you were being chased as a kid). I was summoned a couple of minutes later, the Deputy Headmaster already had his cane out. After I was lectured he ordered me to hold out my right hand and flatten my palm, after the second stroke I put my hand in my arm pit upon which I was told to put my hand behind my back and I was told to hold out my left hand and I shook my left hand after each stroke. After my punishment I was told that I would receive a week of detention and a letter sent to my parents if I truanted class again and my punishment was recorded in a punishment book. As with tradition I showed my friends the marks. I had two red lines across my palms, a couple of friends and most boys received the cane usually from the Deputy Headmaster and their experiences were pretty much the same as mine. The cane was used less frequently the further into the 80s before corporal punishment ceased in the government education sector. I would have preferred to have been caned on my buttocks.

Thank you for your contribution and welcome to the forum. The 1980s in NSW has attracted some discussion in this forum.
As you say, CP was abolished in NSW state schools from the beginning of 1987. However it was permitted again from 1989 by the new government, but under conditions where less than 10% of schools restored it. One condition was that it had to be available for both boys and girls.
See http://www.network54.com/Forum/198833/t … -+NSW+1989
The code sounded reasonable to me, but based on the discussion in this thread, the way it was implemented seemed appalling. As you attended school at that time, were you aware of this and did it affect you ?
The second, not unrelated, issue that has produced debate was the fact that in state co-educational high schools up to 1986 boys could be caned but girls could not. Believe it or not, much of this debate was initiated by the 1981 movie Puberty Blues and an episode of Home and Away.
The most recent discussion was in:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/198833/t … erty+Blues
The scene from Puberty Blues is at (submitted by DD and referenced by AW):
http://youtu.be/JqPxMLv8VGg
Again, as I gather you attended a co-educational high school, do you have any comments ?
I would be very interested in any comments you might have on either issue, perhaps in the threads I have linked.

Hello Oliver,
The end of school corporal punishment did cause a debate within my school but strangely I think most parents and I suspect a lot of the teaching staff would have preferred to have kept corporal punishment. I do think that behaviour at the school got a little worse when the threat of the cane had ended. There was the occasional comment that the exemption for girls in secondary school was unfair (I know of two girls who received the cane at my primary school and girls in primary school under 12 could receive the cane) but that was about as far as it went so it was not really an issue in my school experience.
Girls did share some interest in what receiving the cane was like if they had not received it. The use of the cane stopped from the start of 1988 and there was talk of reinstating corporal punishment. I do not think that my school reinstated corporal punishment but I really don’t remember and I was more into girls and sneaking alcohol in those years than the political goings on in my school. I was in my final two years from 1989 and as I stated in my post I was generally well behaved and I received the cane four times (twice in primary school and twice in high school) during my years at school.
The usual comments in primary school were that boys were more likely to be caned than girls which was true. In my primary school the ruler was also used by teachers for minor offences which might earn you two strokes in class on your hands and girls were more likely to receive this punishment. One of my female teachers in fourth grade did use the ruler on a couple of girls. The second time I received the cane in primary school, a girl was caned and we were caned in front of each other for a big fruit fight in the main playground. What was unfair to me was that the other boy and I received three strokes on each hand and she received two strokes on each hand. There were several participants in the fruit fight and they received the cane as well.
