You’re right this is my first time here. You’re right nothing much bothers me and never did because if someone is rude or making false accusations (still happens to me all these years later too) then I just don’t dignify it with a response. Some think I have an attitude because of it but once you get to know me you’ll find out that isn’t so, I simply don’t acknowledge false accusations towards me is all.
As for my mental state on the day of the paddling, I must have been tougher than most kids because I just remember standing alone in the middle of the room while the teacher went to go get a witness just thinking I wanted it over and done with, and right then. Then of course after it was over and I was not the least bit sore at all I thought “that was it, that all ya got?” Of course I smart enough not to verbalize it but had to try my darndest not to laugh my head off at the half hearted effort. You’re right about the color making the paddle more noticeable alright. I think most kids at my school saw the paddle before they were spanked with it, given the way the teachers typically carried the paddle at their side while escorting a student to be paddled. Luckily I did manage not to get paddled again in school but other kids I knew weren’t so lucky.

Corporal punishment survey
Hi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.
Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.
School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.
If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.
Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.
The information I’d love you to provide is the following:
About You:

Approximate age when punished:
Approximate year of punishment:
Crime committed or alleged:
About the punishment
Administered by Head, or Staff member:
Gender of staff member:

Name of School:

Were you ever punished again for the same offence?:
Do you consider the punishment effective?:

Many thanks for your participation. I will reply to this post myself with the details of the CP I received.

<div style=”width:100%;background-image:url(“/realm/A_L_123/A_L_trg.gif”);”>Hello Annie,
Thank you for your comprehensive and helpful response.
I have glanced quickly at some entries in the Web Log maintained for a time by the four Elementary School Teachers I mentioned as former contributors here. Their mission in that Web Log was to demystify and justify the occasional use of the paddle in school and so a few paddlings are described. They confirm my impression that younger students in 3rd and 4th grade being paddled for the first time were generally very apprehensive, even ostensibly tough little boys sometimes pleading not to be paddled. That you simply wanted to get the thing over and done with and certainly weren’t unduly distressed at the prospect indicates to me that on the day you were indeed tougher mentally than most kids, a state probably enhanced by your outrage at the unjust accusation.
Like you I managed to avoid school corporal punishment after an encounter with it at a young age, Well almost. There was one minor and not very noteworthy exception when I was 10. In my case though the first punishment made a very big impression on me. Unlike you I was extremely apprehensive as I waited in the queue for my turn, and the combined effects of the pain and the indignity made me cry. It has though since convinced me that sometimes for some students SCP can be very effective. I certainly tried very hard to behave myself thereafter, and as a result had a very happy and smooth passage through my school days.
What is your attitude to corporal punishment in schools now? It is of course still used in several States of the USA, though I think largely determined by local parental and societal expectations in individual ISDs or Schools. I am inclined to favour it for a restricted age group, but the checks and conditions I would wish to be applied to its use probably could not be met in other than very well managed and resourced schools. Over here in the UK it has anyway been illegal for some years.
It is perhaps not appropriate for an outsider to comment on practice elsewhere. However I am not very happy about paddling as a school punishment or its current use in the USA. While some claim it is generally not as painful stroke for stroke as the cane, which was usually the top level of school corporal punishment in England, I think there is far more likelihood of a paddle causing an unintended and potentially serious injury. Also it seems to me that paddler, recipient and witness should all be the same sex other than possibly female teachers punishing young boys. Some documented cases where male staff have paddled female students almost seem as if they were specially scripted to support the case for a total ban on school corporal punishment.</div>

I should maybe add that my first punishment was in a class where we all messed around and I was the one who was caught and punished. The second was for bunking off an end of year assembly and everyone knew that if caught it would mean the cane.6 strokes may have seemed a bit much for this offence but as it was my second offence I guess there was a totting up process.
