As I said previously, I had a strange sort of desire to find out what a caning was like as several other boys in my year group had been caned – upto 3 strokes for various offences. I was however extremely nervous as I was told to bend over the chair and can vividly remember that moment to this day.
Afterwards there was some sort of badge of honour that I had joined the group of boys that had been caned.
Diane – was there a similar “badge of honour” amongst your year group of girls that had been caned or slippered. I remember that there was always a sort of satisfaction when a “goody goody” got their first whack – either with a slipper or cane

Corporal punishment surveyHi, I don’t know if this forum can help, but I’m trying to put together some realistic data regarding the use of corporal punishment in schools.
Reading this and other internet sources of information it is clearly very hard to distinguish between genuine accounts of CP, peoples fantasies, and role play.
School punishment books are difficult to find, or access. When they are available they only show the information that the establishments wished to disclose. They also only reflect official punishments, generally administered by the Head, consequentially they are not very representative of the general use of CP within schools.
If I study references in the media, the reports are generally only written when the incident was questionably outside the law. In England where I live, and indeed went to school, corporal punishment was legally practiced up until 1986. Therefore there would be no reason for the media to cover anything except the unusual.
Many of us however have witnessed (often first hand) the use of corporal punishment at school. If you have (as indeed have I) I’d be very grateful if you’d reply to this post giving as much accurate information as you feel comfortable with. However to keep this thread out of the realm of fantasy, I’d ask that you only post facts, and leave the creative writing and long discussions to other forums.
The information I’d love you to provide is the following:

Many thanks for your participation. I will reply to this post myself with the details of the CP I received.
Note: I see no reason why schools should not be named as they were operating completely within the law.
The consensus at my school was that 3 of the slipper was worth 1 of the cane or 1 detention… Not that anyone ever had a choice. I did hear of another school where there was a choice between the cane or a Saturday detention. But I think that would have been six of the best…

I think the other reason I would have opted for one stroke of the cane rather than a detention was that, like Rickie, I had a sort of strange curiosity to find out what a cane stroke actually felt like and to see what kind of mark it would leave on my bottom, although I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to get several strokes. If I had already experienced the cane, I may well have taken a different view! (In fact I never did find out what a cane stroke feels like, which I sort of regret now, lol.)
Diane, how many lines did you have to write during your detentions and how long did it usually take? Were you also given lines to write outside of the detention setting, e.g. to be handed in the next school day? I hated writing lines, but it was quite a popular punishment at my school. The most I ever got was 200, which I suppose wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but grinding out lines just seemed an interminable punishment.

Keith- I think you had a lucky escape. I think if you had been caned then you would have wished that you weren’t. The detentions were usually up to an hour long and no more than 100 lines. The teachers were keen to get home or at least to the pub I am sure. Anyway I was never given this choice but if I had you know what I would have chosen every time.
Rickie- I guess I can understand the macho pride thing with boys. There was none of that with me though. Maybe some girls felt it was a badge of honour to have been caned multiple times but the majority of us did not think so. I will admit to being not the best behaved girl but there were others whose behaviour was worse. There were lots of girls who went through their time at the school without receiving CP and they were the sensible ones. The ones who were caned once and were never caned again were the ones that learned their lesson the hard way. There were also some girls who were the ‘goody goody’ type who you would never think would have ever been caned that somehow fell foul of the rules and were caned once. A couple of friends of mine fell into that category.

A question has occurred to me relating to the times you were caned at school over your skirt (or dress).
When a girl wearing a skirt bends over, the skirt will tighten against the upper and middle area of the bottom, but (unless it’s a really tight “pencil” skirt) there will still be an air gap between the skirt and the lower part of the bottom, which would impede the action of the cane. So the target area would effectively be restricted to the middle part of the bottom only. Of course it’s the lower part of the bottom that is the most sensitive area and the area that will produce an unwelcome reminder of the punishment when sitting down.
Do you think this is true – or am I talking rubbish? When you were caned over your skirt or dress, can you remember whether any of the strokes landed low down, or were they all concentrated higher up?
Of course, it wouldn’t have been an issue with boys – trousers are much better-behaved than skirts in this respect!

I can’t remember how long it took for the Head to announce the choice as it came at the end of a stern lecture on disobedience which certainly left me in a “weak at the knees” state.
Caning wasn’t an everyday occurrence at my school and I think the three of us were boys who were not that regularly in trouble. It could be that the Head wanted to give us an option of avoiding the cane by giving an option of detention.
I think for more serious offences such as smoking or truancy there was no option. One boy in my class who skipped a lesson shortly after my caning was told to bend over the chair straight away and I think he got 3.

The fashion when I was at school in the 1970s was for long skirts below the knee. I do remember feeling uncomfortable when trying to sit down after a caning so I guess the strokes mostly hit the lower part of my bottom.

That’s interesting. I wouldn’t have thought your skirt would be tight against the lower part of your bottom when you were bending over, and any gap would surely impede the action of a cane stroke aimed there. Is that not what you would have expected?
Can you remember whether you had any cane stripes low down on your bottom after those canings?

The position of the “victim” could affect the position of the cane stroke. I had to bend over the padded arm of a chair and grab the other side so the whole of my bottom would no doubt be horizontal and completely at the mercy of the Head.
If Diane had to bend over a desk, the chances are that part of her bottom would still be in a vertical position and possibly part of it would be less likely to be struck by a cane.
As far as I recall my stripe was fairly central on my bottom.

Hello Rickie,
Yes I understand your point. But the point I was making related specifically to being caned over a skirt. I don’t know whether you agree, but it seems to me that if a girl wearing a normal school skirt was bending over a desk in that way, there would still be a slight air gap between the skirt and the lower part of the bottom, which would impede a cane stroke aimed at that area. At any rate, the skirt would not be absolutely tight against the lower bottom in the same way that a pair of trousers would be when bending over. Does that seem likely to you, or am I talking nonsense?
From accounts on this forum and elsewhere, it certainly appears that, in most schools where girls could be caned on the bottom, the canings were administered over the knickers with the back of the skirt pulled up. Caning over the skirt seems to have been relatively unusual. As well as being more painful over just one layer of clothing, I suspect the other reason for this was so that the lower part of the bottom could be part of the target area, as most people would agree that this is the most sensitive part of the bottom.
