Ted shrugged, looking clearly embarrassed.
“Take a look at her,” Megan advised. “It might get ugly.”
Anna shook her head doubtfully. “I don’t think I want any part of this,” she declared.
“She hurt Megan,” Ted justified. “She attacked her and…”
“And she should be punished for it,” Anna concluded. “But by the authorities. Not by us.”
“Anna…”
“No, Ted. Take me home. I don’t care what you do, just leave me out of it.”
He sighed.
“What’s the matter?” Deanna continued to tease. “Princess can’t get her silk gloves dirty? Has to have her an excuse for a man do it for her?”
Ted gave her a look of hatred and Anna surprised Megan for the second time that night by reaching back and giving Deanna a quick smack in the face.
“Don’t you dare talk to him like that!” she insisted.
