The entire rigmarole was reported with my colleague and we were orderd to stand in the corner of the stage facing the audience tillthe assembly ws over and the gathering dismissed. Standing straight was in itself and ordeal.
Then with a fond pat on the head we were ordered back to our classrooms – to a standing ovation by our classmates, as was the tradition. Sitting on the wooden bench for the next two days was an ordeal we would like to forget but can not.
The red lines on our bottoms turned black after three or four days and finally disappeard after another three days.
The experience was insulting and painful, but today we can look back on it with an air of regretful nostalgia.
