I wonder if anyone else had the wee arrangements our parents made in late 1950s Edinburgh? These were in Caulton, in terraced streets like Montreal, Quebec/Alberta Roads & Streets.

Our fathers usually worked all summer bar the family week away, sometimes a fortnight. By the time they were home for tea, around 6, things were expected to be quiet, and there were also some night workers on the Corpie buses maintenance, etc, so you had to stay well away from THEIR doors.

Mums had a rota-one week & any two were on watch for misbehavior. Those caught were punished in their own wee parlors by the weekly watchdogs, with the whole family getting a brief extra entertainment for the evening.
