“Hi, Erin, I’m Hailey.”
“Hi,” mumbled Erin.
“Do you want help unpacking?”
“No, I can handle it.”
Erin didn’t want to be a bother, and she truly didn’t mind unpacking by herself; what else did she have to do tonight, after all? Better to keep busy and out of the way of her hosts.
Hailey hadn’t expected her new roommate to be so quiet. Still, if Erin wanted to be quiet and work alone, it was up to her, so with a friendly “If you do need anything, please ask,” Hailey pulled a book off her shelf, flopped on her bed, and started reading.
It didn’t take Erin too long to unpack, and soon she found herself watching TV with Hailey on the bedroom’s new television set. She wasn’t sure yet what she thought of Hailey; Hailey seemed friendly enough, though, and didn’t seem to be bothered by her mere presence, which was good.
