So this brings me to question two. In my opinion Scottish women are more likely to mention the belt than English women are to mention the slipper or the cane. This is not, I think because English women are inherently more reticent than their Scottish sisters, but because most girls in ordinary Scottish schools got belted, whereas the majority of girls in ordinary English schools didn’t get slippered, and very few got caned.
