2) Once CP was established in the classroom for the worst kids, with the clear approval of everyone else, it was a small change to allow less severe CP to be applied to even the better kids for much lesser offenses.
3) The Secondary Modern had been constructed on the principle of equality between the sexes. In many areas of England and Wales, it was considered politically correct to use CP on the girls, as well as the boys. Only where the local culture was extremely against the hitting of girls, did the school have a sexist CP policy. Otherwise, the head, teachers’ unions, and educational ‘experts’ demanded similar treatment for both sexes. Here we have a massive difference between the Secondary Modern, and most Independent, Public, and Church schools that girls attended.
