If they had done, quite simply more women would talk about it, at some time and in some circumstances. In my experience in general they don’t. How surprised I was in later life to come across a woman who said she had received corporal punishment at the senior school associated the junior school I attended, and to hear her story. It was surprising simply because it was unusual, despite the fact that I’ve lived in the district for most of my life.

Ah, you may say, femine reticence, women don’t like to talk about that sort of thing. Well, so far I’ve been talking about England. I’ve no experience of school CP in Wales or either part of Ireland and nor have I spent much time in those countries. However, I have spent quite a bit of time in Scotland.
