I stress before starting that I refer here only to the war years. I know some will dismiss this post as fantasy as they just do not believe boys were ever caned on the bare bottom. Others may want proof but how do you prove that it took place and indeed if it did not? One point members seem to fail to understand is that St Peters was NOT A STATE SCHOOL NOR WAS IT A PRIVATE SCHOOL. It fell between the two, like many schools at this time, and did not change much until Middle schools started up in 1970. The school received funding, in part, to take boys from the local area from the state. The rest of the money came from the church and other sources. The LEA did NOT have control over school policy. School policy was decided by the Church Board. It was NOT subject to local LEA rules and regulations.
