Why was it quicker to cane on the hands than the bottom? Simple. You just took hold of the boy by the wrist and THWACK before repeating it on his other hand. Do it on his bottom, you have to wait for him to drop his trousers, and if you have not made him remove his shirt you had to hitch it up and afterward he had to dress. I think it was fair to say that it took longer to cane one boy on his bottom than at least four boys on each hand.
