Some notes I put to one side as they did not look as if they had been done by the boys mother. If the phones were working I would try to phone them at home or if I knew where they were working I would phone and ask them to phone the school office to confirm the note. If boys were absent for more than two days and the school had not heard from the parents I would again try to contact them. This often resulted in me calling at the boy’s house on my way home.. sometimes a boy was missing and I used to get the feeling maybe by something I heard that he was playing truant. Again I would try to contact his mother during this time.
