The idea that you don’t dob is still strongly ingrained in our pupils. We’ve managed to modify it somewhat over the years until it is now considered acceptable by nearly all boys to turn in bullies (especially if you are the victim) and reasonably acceptable if you’re trying to stop a friend getting himself in serious trouble (ie, drug use) – the corollary in such cases is that the boys involved then have a right to expect us to try to deal with it in a way that helps with punitive measures kept to a minimum (in essence, in the same way we would if the boy himself asked for help rather than being reported).
