I don’t think I’ve ever known a prefect to abuse his powers to send a boy to me, or to give a detention. I do know of cases where they’ve made mistakes and reconsidered on later reflection but not of outright abuse. They’ve abused some of their other powers at times – not reporting boys who don’t attend a detention they are supervising, and running a brewery out of the prefects common room are two recent examples that come to mind. But neither of those things seemed to make them unpopular for some reason, as, of course, rule breaking always should.
