Ken and Tony got together, then came back and said a couple of the caning takes could be done from behind and we could wear gloves, but they would have to do the actual shot from the front one more time and would pay us an extra ten shillings [50p] for each hand caned, which would include those with gloves on. The younger boy wasn’t caned again, though. In total, the rest of us made £3 10s [£3.50]. We realised that it had to be real, but it was the shock of having trusted these people over several weeks and, suddenly, we were told that we didn’t have to worry about this scene because we wouldn’t really get the cane, but we did.
