I remember the cherry brandy incident. Unfortunately, the Sunday paper in those days was the Sunday Depressing(Express in real English!), and they reported he got caned.
And I remember the hopeful get-out clause was that he was 16, so old enough to be in a pub. Which dates it to late 1964 or 1965, as he was born in November 1948.
Unfortunately for Mr Windsor, Kurt Hahn didn’t fall for that one. Charles was not old enough to be consuming or buying alcohol, so he should have said he was only drinking coke.
But, as we’ve seen with the blessed Wilfred Ing at Bacons, even that one might not have cut any ice.
I can’t believe there would be too many circumstances when you’d need a cherry brandy down Geelong Way, though didn’t you have snow this last or the previous Christmas, Doc?
And I won’t lower the tone by telling you the use for cherry brandy apres-ski, as it were.
