Though the sensation wasn’t entirely unfamiliar, she practically jumped out of bed as she realized what she’d done. Despite her previous desperate prayers to avoid doing so, she had managed to ruin her new family’s sheets the first night she was in their home. Her aunt and uncle were going to hate her.
Luckily, Hailey was still asleep. Unluckily, Erin was not familiar with the house and wouldn’t be able to take her sheets to the laundry without turning on some lights, and if she did that, she’d probably wake someone up. There was really nothing she could do but change into dry clothes, sleep on the floor, and deal with the wet sheets and inevitable trouble she’d be in once everybody else was awake.
Hailey was a light sleeper, though, and she woke up to Erin’s digging through the drawers.
“Erin, what are you doing? It’s five in the morning!”
“Nothing, I’m fine,” Erin lied.
