Some other don’ts …Never use it in public, never use the cane on the hand ( too dangerous), Never use it when angry…too much risk. And we could discuss appeals, witnesses, and the entire modus operandi.
As to my record. I have mostly, but not exclusively, taught in University. In the only school where I could have used the cane, indeed I almost had one thrust on me by the deputy head….. I didn’t …why not ? Because I considered the unregulated use of the cane by Tom Dick and Harriet was counterproductive and frankly abusive. : The only people I felt like caning there were those, in my mind, abusing their position.
