Did you have many links with the girl’s High school?
No, at that time the links between the schools were not well established, although they were starting to develop. In my early days there I was a shy lad and far too much of a swot to spend my lunch times in the Arboretum, where the main congress between the pupils of the two schools took place then. Later, in the sixth form, a joint monthly dancing class was established. In theory, this was compulsory, but my sole act of rebellion while at NHS was to refuse to attend. Happily, I was never taken to task for this.
