Every child and teacher has the right to play and work safely in school. If not it is an infringement of their human rights. Why should those who infringe these people’s human rights have their own human rights infringed by getting their bottoms whacked? That is provided it was not excessive.
People used to say that the cane made pupils more violent toward teachers. CP ended in 1986 in State schools but more teachers are assulted now than in the days of the cane!!! People said that boys played truant more because they were scared to go to school in case they got the cane. More pupils now play truant or stay off school for the smallest reasons than pre-1986. People said it was wrong pupils should be scared of their teachers. I do not think pupils were really afraid of the actual teacher, but of the cane he would apply to their bottoms if they were naughty.
