Once again, the tail of the blazer would be lifted to ensure that the full benefit of “The Slipper” was received. Some teachers had an additional rule that if you took your hands off the seat of the chair, arched your back or moved your bottom when you were being slippered, then you had to have the stroke repeated. This was to ensure that “The Slipper” connected properly with the recipeint’s bottom on each stroke so that the slippering was fully effective. Another method used was to invite the pupil to bend over a table, a workbench, a pupil’s desk or the teacher’s desk at the front. This had the advantage of supporting the recipient throughout the slippering and keeping the bottom in a suitable position to get the full benefit of “The Slipper”.
