Exactly! Much (if not most) of the “research” is based on CP in the home: which I suspect in many cases might be a euphemism for “abuse”. I can understand how children who were abused could develop psychological problems in later life.
While there are a few studies around (particularly some of the studies from the 1970s which became very influential in calls to ban corporal punishment) that confuse corporal punishment and abuse, most studies are expressly designed (and have been for two and a half decades) to avoid that problem.
