I have noticed on this forum that many of the pro-corporal punishment advocates tend to be dismissive of negative experiences, such as though Bob T suffered. They are quick to point out that their own experiences were positive, and to suggest that negative experiences are atypical.

JRL, I don’t think you are correct about that. I, for one, am not at all dismissive of people’s negative experiences with corporal punishment. Often what some people went through at school, horrifies me. Bob T is an example of this. He experienced what I regard as serious abuse at his school. And I feel very sorry for him.

But I don’t think his experiences are the only ones that matter. I think the positive experiences that many people did have matter as well.
