in some countries like the UK I would suggest , as I have said elsewhere at the present time there is no chance of the reintroduction of corporal punishment : in some like the US there is a fight on abolition. But in the many discussions we have had over this , there appears an unwillingness of both sides to consider the philosophical, ethical and practical consequences of punishment of all kinds.

Now before I start I’m going to state my own a priori postilions. No-one else has to follow them , but just recognize that these are ethical or moral statements which are, therefore not subject to empirical disproof. They are the irreducible choices of my personal position and therefore logically can be disputed but not disproved.
