I was caned seven times during my schooling, my first caning was three strokes, the second was three, the third was four strokes, the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh canings were all six strokes. Six strokes hurt significantly more than the other canings I received, even more so as I was older when I received “six of the best” and had a higher pain tolerance. My first six strokes was for smoking and I was in agony and could hardly sit for most of the morning and the marks from my six strokes were still visible, albeit feintly visible, after four days. The experiences were more memorable where you were in a line of other pupils who were also going to be caned and you could hear them being punished.
