Maybe the real answer is the British like 6 because it is a perfect number: and the Americans don’t !!!! Maybe to them imperfect behaviour doesn’t deserve deserves a perfect number of licks, whereas we think it is the perfect solution!!!!
The threat of the cane might not have been much of a deterrence to us but I’m sure it deterred a lot of others from partaking
I think that’s very true. Certainly in my case the fact I was on a no cane list for years and DIDN’T therefore get caned, actually made me more frightened of it than I should have been. When I was caned , although of course it wasn’t pleasant, it was something of an anticlimax. We’d been told this is absolutely the worst pain you can imagine etc etc, by all the so called hard guys, spinning their stories. so we thought this was , frankly, a terrible ordeal.
