I feel strongly that corporal punishment should be reintroduced in boys and co-educational schools. Caning on the hand should be used for boys only.
Caning of girls should never be allowed under any circumstances.
My experience at school, when caning of boys was universal, was that a boy actually gains from the experience, because it teaches him where the boundaries’ are. He soon learns what he will be caned for–and avoids the caning by keeping the rules laid down by the teacher. In this way he learns how to behave and, more importantly, how not to behave!
Girls are very different from boys. They are generally quieter and better behaved. If a girl is naughty, she can be talked to by the teacher and will probably sit quietly. If the naughtiness persists, the teacher may give her lines to write, or may ask her to stand outside the door for a time.
