I remember. ”Sian amach do laimh”, —hold out your hand–. How convenient our native language was to so many teachers for an excuse to beat us.
I was in correspondence with a man recently who recalls a 4-ply leather being used in the 2 final years. All I seem to remember was the usual 3 ply one but delivered with greater vigor to senior girls. One teacher had a strap that I believe was cut from conveyor belt material. It looked a little longer than the standard leather, but my goodness, could it impact a horrific sting? Three on each hand to the strongest senior girl would leave its victim in sheer agony for hours.
