Whenever a boy was expelled from my boarding school,circa 1940ish,this was accommpanied by twelve strokes of the cane split up into two bouts-six in assembly in the morning,the other six later in the afternoon in the Headmasters study and I can only assume that this was because tha caning was so hard that no boy,junior or senior alike could take such a caning in one session.
