We were the ‘sahibs’, the upper school, and we were in a sense, role models and looked up to by the younger boys, and we were expected to reflect this sense of responsibility in our behaviour, and a good thing too in my opinion.
We were very aware of the decorum expected in our high position, and acted accordingly.

The senior school was far less regimented, a much more relaxed atmosphere in relation to the headmaster and other masters.
In other words we were treated as responsible young men.
Boys in the upper school very rarely ever received corporal punishment, unless it was as an alternative to expulsion, and I remember no more than one or two instances in the whole time at the school.
