Far less has been discussed in CP literature and on the internet about what effect the mere knowledge of such punishments may have had on boys. But I believe that these private or semi-private punishments of girls may, in some cases, have had an even more powerful effect on boys than those given in front of the class, firstly because they were generally more severe, and expected to be by both their recipients and others aware of them, and secondly because they challenged boys to use their imaginations and therefore think more deeply about them.
