I recall being frustrated at having to wait for him to return from court. When he did return, he kept me waiting a bit longer then one of the secretaries told me I could go in.

You knew very quickly if you were in trouble or not. If you were not, you were invited to sit down. On this occasion, I received no such invitation. He quickly explained why I was there and that he intended to punish me. But before he did, he wanted to discuss my school record with me. My school file did not make good reading, neither did the ascerbic comments from teachers in my annual report, or the many reply slips in the file from my parents acknowledging that I had been punished, (if only they came with air miles).
