I recall pupils (boys) being threatened with being sent to Mr Smith (Headmaster) for the strap but don’t really remember it ever being more than a threat. I assumed the strap was on the bottom but I can’t be sure. On one occasion a girl was threatened with the same fate only on that occasion the threat seemed to specify having her hands strapped.
