That’s from The Times of 29th January 1997. The article repeatedly refers to reintroducing or restoring corporal punishment to school. In January 1997, as I am sure you are aware, corporal punishment was still legally permitted in independent schools in the UK – but that didn’t stop either Member of Parliament, or The Times, from using the same type of shorthand statement of referring to a proposed reintroduction into state schools as if it referred to all schools that has long been used here as well, and which was used in the recent article from the Herald Sun.

I wish things weren’t this complicated. It would make my life a lot easier. But this is the reality and all I have ever done is try to describe the realities. And been attacked and abuse because of that in many cases.
