It appears as though despite efforts to set out guidelines for the use of corporal punishment by local authorities the were a lot of deviations from the guidelines. My experiences with school corporal punishment were in line with the established procedures. My own personal feelings (although I did not think so at the time) are that I was appropriately punished for my actions when I received the cane. I do think that if I had been caned regularly the punishment would have lost its impact but the four times that I did receive the cane had an impact on me which is why I remember them vividly.
