My sister – in – law – and other teachers – had misgivings and did make their views known, but did not go so far as to report him to the authorities. The victims of this Headmaster’s assaults will now be circa 30 – 35 years old, and I just wonder what would be the impact of a few of them walking into a local police station with a view to having proceedings initiated against him.
On a secondary point I also ponder to what extent teachers such as my sister – in – law and her colleagues might reasonably be accused of having helped cover the affair up by failing to alert the authorities at the time. Echoes of BBC staff failing to report Jimmy Savile et al are in my mind – though I do accept that the offence itself is not as serious as sexual abuse.
