From my early teens, I knew that the idea of corporal punishment excited me. I was at a school where it was still used (and that was pretty unusual at that time and place) and I got it at home, but it wasn’t really that that lead me to realise it excited me. It was a book I read – a children’s book by Richard Peck – that made me feel odd whenever I read one passage in it. After I read that, I started to get much more interested. I used to get turned on if I knew someone was going to be caned, and I used to try and listen to it happening whenever I could – canings happened at lunchtimes and there was a bench outside the Principal’s office window. You couldn’t hear much but you could hear something.
