I think very few boys ever wanted or got the cane just to find out what it was like. Most knew from the expression on boys’ faces how much it hurt. Also seeing the cane marks in the showers, or boys showing them to others, deterred most from wanting to find out what it was like.I think any boy who had seen another caned or the welt marks on his bottom would certainly not wish to have the same. I think the only time when it may have occurred was with heads that tended only to give taps with the cane rather than firm strokes, or just two strokes every time across the trousers. It became the “in thing” then for boys to be caned as acceptance into a group.
