At my prep school, there were various silly “dares”, including (in summer!) getting out of bed, downstairs, and running right around the outside of the building and back in without getting caught. This would be only at maybe 9.30 at night so not even very daring and certainly not dangerous. But there was not more than about a 60-40 chance of success, depending on how quick/nimble you were and which teachers were on duty, and the absolutely automatic punishment was the slipper, not a set number of whacks but not more than three or four, fairly jovially delivered. Worth the risk? you bet.
