At my primary school it was different. There were two departments within the school, infants (5-7 year olds, now known as Key Stage 1), and juniors, (7- 11, now Key Stage 2). I knew of a couple of boys in my class who were caned on their hands by the Headmaster for bullying. When I was ten, we had a teacher for a while who used to swipe our palms with a ruler for minor infractions of the rules, like talking when you’d already been told to shut up.
