All they know is that at the end that child suddenly disappears from the class and is forgotten – certainly no deterrent to the average 12-year-old!
I do not say the cane should be brought back, today’s youngsters wouldn’t submit the way we used to. I do say it should never have been banned altogether – it has simply resulted in kids learning far less than they should do because of disruptions in the classroom despite all the myriad improvements over the years (computers, Internet, TV programs for schools, etc)
The politically correct have a lot to answer for!
