This of course didn’t mean that the headmaster wouldn’t cane a boy across his bare bottom if he considered that he was in dire need of it but in my time at the school I never heard of anyone ever getting a bare bottom six’ but that doesn’t mean that from time to time a bare bottom wasn’t presented in the heads study for a very severe beating on occasion and if it was, why wasn’t I informed!! I would say that all those caning tales you heard at bedtime had much more than a little truth behind them, dormitory canings, over pajamas canings ‘bare bottom canings in the privacy of the headmaster study, 12-stroke expulsion canings administered with extreme severity in front of the entire school,
