I did not receive the cane at primary school and I have never received scp from a male. I can however say which primary school punishment hurt me the most and as I agree with A_L, it would be a shame to let the thread die unloved, I will contribute based on that rather than the actual question.
The cane at primary was only given by the headmaster for mainly serious offences, the class teacher dealt with most things. Infant teachers would just smack with their hands, junior teachers would sometimes use a slipper or ruler.
